Miss Renata Flitworth lived in the plains below the Ramtops where she owned a farm. She was the employer of Bill Door (Death), who was sufficiently impressed by her that he allowed her soul to remain in the world just long enough to attend the long-looked-forward-to-harvest dance.
Her father was a smuggler, and her neighbours think that she has a large stash of treasure from his smuggling days. Her fiancé was also a smuggler, but he died on the eve of their marriage, killed in an avalanche while making one last trip across the mountains. After Miss Flitworth dies, Death takes her back in time to the moment after her fiancé died, reuniting them.
